Painful match for Javier Báez

Chicago. Kyle Wright kicked four Chicago hitters but retained the lead in a last-minute game call, and the Atlanta Braves escaped Friday with a 5-2 win over the Cubes.

Will Smith made sure the bases stayed full at the bottom of the ninth inning.

Wright was called up from the Club’s alternate training site to replace Drew Smyly, who was on the injured list for 10 days on Friday morning, due to an inflammation of his left forearm.

Ronald Acuña Jr, who towed two runs in the encounter, overcame Báez’s powerful arm in a play on the plate to get still from the anteroom.

Four relievers kept the Cubs at zero, including Josh Tomlin (2-0), who took the win. Smith took charge of the ninth inning and allowed the bases to be filled with two outs.

The taper struck Joc Pederson to prove his third save in three attempts.
