Reason unknown after eight deaths at Indianapolis’ FedEx facility

A 19-year-old gunman opened fire on a FedEx facility in Indianapolis on Thursday night and killed eight people before dying from a self-inflicted bullet wound, authorities said. Police identified the suspect as Brandon Scott Hole, a former FedEx employee.

The FBI was looking for clues Friday at his home, but there was still no reason. Last year, law enforcement officers confiscated a shotgun in Hole after his mother said he could try to kill himself by police, officials said.

The eight dead victims were employees of the company, FedEx said. Craig McCartt, deputy director of the Indianapolis metropolitan police department, said Hole was last hired by the company in 2020.

McCartt said the gunman carried out the fury with a rifle, adding that he did not know if he had obtained it illegally.

Witnesses told investigators the outrage began shortly after the gunman arrived at facilities near Indianapolis Airport, McCartt said.

“He got out of his car and quickly started shooting outdoors outside the facility,” McCartt said. “There was no confrontation with anyone who was there. There was no inconvenience. There was no discussion. He just showed up to start shooting at random, and that started in the parking lot.”
