Leonardo Fana is released on parole

Former director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), Leonardo Fana, was released from prison in Najayo, after being remanded in custody on charges of sexual assault by the former financial manager of the institution.

This was confirmed by his lawyer, Carles Olivares, who said that the prosecutor of the Court of Appeal of the National District, José de el Carme Sepúlveda, sent the release order to the said prison because run.

This comes after the judges of the Court will vary the two-month pre-trial detention imposed on her by the investigating judge Nancy Joaquín, who was in charge of the case.

It is recalled that last Wednesday the Court, presided over by Ignacio Camacho, imposed on Fana the payment of an economic guarantee of 500 thousand pesos, impediment to departure and periodic presentation.

Olivares, who heads the defense of the suspended official, argued in court that the budgets that gave rise to pretrial detention had varied.

The complaint of sexual assault against Fana was filed on January 18 with the Unit for Attention and Prevention of Gender Violence, by the former financial manager of the IAD, Maria Isabel Flores, who ended up withdrawing it, but the prosecution continued the process which ended up sending him to Najayo prison.

Fana asked President Luis Abinader for a work license to face the accusation and at every moment has said that he is innocent of the charges against him.
