New York Giants, Jason McCourty leaves without any agreement … for now

The New York Giants met with veteran hometown defender and man Jason McCourty on Friday evening and it looks like the face-off went well.

However, despite a positive encounter between the Giants and McCourty, the two separated without an established agreement. The good news? The door remains open to future negotiations and a possible contract somewhere along the way (probably after the 2021 NFL draft).

As noted above, McCoutry, 33, was a member of our Homegrown Legends team in September / November. Here is what we had written about him at the time:

McCourty and his twin brother, Devin, were born and raised in Rockland County, New York, and attended high school across the state line at Saint Joseph Regional High in Montvale, New Jersey. Jason, who played around the corner and was a running star, was recruited more than Devin, who played safety. Jason plans to attend Boston College, but the Eagles did not offer Devin a scholarship. When Rutgers made offers to both Jason and Devin, the brothers committed to the Scarlet Knights.

Jason recorded 150 attacks in 47 games for the Rutgers and was selected in the sixth round by the Tennessee Titans in 2009. He spent eight seasons with the Titans and one with the Cleveland Browns before joining Devin with the New England Patriots on 2018. Jason has 18 interceptions in 150 NFL regular season games and won Super Bowl LIII with the Ducks.

McCoutry received a Pro Football Focus grade of 55.7 last season, which was the second lowest grade of his career. However, that comes after three consecutive seasons that rank at 74.4 or better.

There’s also a certain level of familiarity between head coach Joe Judge and McCoutry, so we’ll see if that plays into future negotiations or a possible deal. The Giants could use another corner, so don’t expect that interest to shut up.
