We don’t even know where to start with this one. A series of relatively cryptic tweets related to Metal Gear have sparked speculation about some sort of incoming ad. Everything is a little weird, but we will try to give it some meaning.
A Twitter account called “Tom Olsen” was created in April 2021. According to the biography, Tom is a “maintenance technician on the Big Shell,” the main setting for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Tom only follows the official accounts of Metal Gear, Konami, Hideo Kojima and the New York Mets baseball team. Also, all of Tom’s tweets have been related to Metal Gear Solid 2 so far, with screenshots of the game.
One of Tom’s latest tweets suggests that something will come soon:
Okay, so who is this “Tom Olsen”? Is it just a weird role account? Why does anyone care? Well, Tom was quoted on Twitter via the official Metal Gear account a few days ago. The account played along with Tom’s tweet and seemed to suggest that something would happen “next week.”
It’s a little weird, isn’t it? Given the often mysterious nature of the Metal Gear series, it’s no surprise that people are starting to pay attention to it. That said, we’ve already seen it a lot of rumors start with weird entanglements on social media and, most of the time, are not what you expect. At this point, these tweets could mean anything, therefore, we do not recommend that you do not increase your expectations.
But Metal Gear Solid remake whispers have been making rounds for months, and that only adds fuel to the fire. We’ll just have to wait and see if anything happens next week, right?
