Israel and Greece have signed their largest defense contract agreement, which Israel said Sunday would strengthen political and economic ties between the countries.

The agreement includes a $ 1.651 billion contract for the establishment and operation of a Hellenic Air Force training center by Israeli defense contractor Elbit Systems (ESLT.TA) for a period 22 years old, according to the Israeli defense ministry.

The training center will be based at Israel’s own flight academy and will be equipped with 10 M-346 training aircraft produced by Italian company Leonardo (LDOF.MI), the ministry said.

Elbit will supply kits to upgrade and operate the T-6 aircraft from Greece and will also provide training, simulators and logistical support.

“I am confident that (this program) will improve capabilities and strengthen the economies of Israel and Greece, and therefore the collaboration between our two countries will be deepened at the defense, economic and political levels,” he said. Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz.

The announcement comes after a meeting on Friday in Cyprus between the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Greeks, Cypriots and Israelis, who agreed to deepen cooperation between their countries. Read more
