Check out the Hummer EV CrabWalk prototypes on a public road

One of the most interesting features of the new GMC Hummer electric vehicles is CrabWalk, but we haven’t seen it in action yet. Well, at least so far.

Basically, the “crab mode” allows the four wheels of the Hummer to not tilt to the side so that when the accelerator is applied, the rugged EV moves diagonally. Four-wheel steering takes on a whole new level and the goal is to use this mode to maneuver more easily around difficult obstacles when you’re off-road. I imagine it will also be a very ingenious party trick.

But someone posted a clip to The Fast Lane Truck on YouTube showing this mode on a public road for the first time. You can see it below:

So far, everything we’ve seen has been released directly by GM and digitally created or filmed on a closed circuit; you should take all this with a grain of salt, as this shows nothing in nature.

This new clip, however, shows a line of Hummer EV truck crabs walking through congested traffic. They’re equally lovely and creepy parts, like what I’ve always heard watching dancers move in sync. It shouldn’t be possible to move like that, but it’s like that.

Either way, it’s fun to have seen these trucks doing their little dance on the road after what looks like a successful day driving on the ground. We have yet to see what the CrabWalk function looks like when implementing a medium obstacle on an off-road clue, but it’s probably only a matter of time.

But it also offers a fun little road experience. I would love to see the faces of people unfamiliar with this feature when they witness the crab staff on the road for the first time.
