Gianna Hammer, a former contestant on “Are You the One?” From MTV, she claims that a co-star “sexually assaulted” her on the set of the dating contest, after the production gave her a pill.
Hammer, who had a role in season 5 in 2017, claims she was assaulted by an unnamed cast member after the production gave her one of her own receiving pills to “calm down” during a drunken fight, according to a new report from The Daily Beast.
“I was very confused, very nervous,” Hammer told the publication the morning after the alleged incident while meeting with producers. “I remember being unstable and not knowing what had happened or if I had problems. That’s when I was asked if I remember anything that happened last night. I said no. They start reviewing what had happened … and that’s when I started thinking and seeing some kind of flashes ”.
Hammer said the man he accused of assault was not removed from the program.
An MTV spokesman told The Daily Beast in a statement: “We take these issues very seriously and have stopped production / casting to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations, the third-party production company and review security protocols. interns “.
Producers Lighthearted Entertainment denied Hammer’s allegations and told The Daily Beast that it welcomes an investigation and will “cooperate with full transparency.”
“We are confident that any review will confirm the security protocols we have long established in the‘ Are You The One? ’Sets,” the company said in a statement. “We deny the complaints made by the former contestant; over the eight seasons of the show, no contestant has reported a sexual assault incident on Lighthearted. “
Hammer told The Daily Beast that before going to the show he was taking a low dose of the antidepressant Zoloft daily before going to bed. He said doctors had advised him not to take it with alcohol (which flowed freely into the program), but he was given the medication every morning.
“His logic was not to get too involved,” Hammer said. “So if I took it early in the morning, it wouldn’t really affect me later in the evening.”
The night in question, Hammer claims that before she was assaulted, she got into a drunken verbal altercation with a cast member. He said one of the last things he remembers is the producers who supposedly say “I needed to calm down and they would give me one of my medications.”
“I know my co-stars said I kept telling them,‘ I’m not supposed to do that when I’m drinking. I’m not supposed to do it when I’m drinking. They still said it was okay, they said it wasn’t a high enough dose or something. So I took it. ”
Hammer ended up going to bed with a member of the male cast later that night, but was removed after her co-stars heard her say “no,” Hammer said.
“I do not know how long it took, however [another male cast member] she heard me say ‘no’ to him and he jumped out of bed and said, ‘Get out of it’, ”Hammer said who was informed of the alleged incident. “I [other cast members] he got me out of bed. “
Hayden Weaver, another season 5 co-star of the show who started dating Hammer after filming, backed up parts of his story that night.
“I remember at one point I looked in the room and there was a camera indicating where Gianna was,” he said. “I couldn’t see exactly what they were filming. I just assumed they were getting some photos of people sleeping and that they could edit in things for the show. I realized that later. [the male cast member] I was basically starting to touch it and film it as if it were a connection. ”
Hammer and Weaver, who are the parents of a young son, left for about two years before separating.
