He was far from the crime of purr-fect.
The druggist’s fluffy white cat was caught trying to smuggle narcotics into Panama prison, authorities said.
The feline criminal was carrying the contraband in a bag tied around his neck when he was arrested on Friday in the prison of Nueva Esperanza, in the province of Colon, AFP reported.
“The animal had a cloth tied around its neck” that contained packages wrapped in white powder, leaves and “plant matter,” said Andres Gutierrez, head of Panama’s Penitentiary System.
The substances were probably cocaine and marijuana, according to another official.
Local prosecutors said they had opened an investigation into the use of animals to introduce illegal substances into the Nueva Esperanza facility, which houses more than 1,700 inmates.
Meanwhile, the criminal cat in question will be taken to a pet adoption center, according to prosecutors.
It is not the first time that dams in the Central American country have used critters as drug traffickers.
Authorities have previously intercepted drug delivery attempts by making pigeons and even drones.
