Greene, in a statement Sunday, said he “will present a resolution to expel Rep. Maxine Waters from Congress for her continued incitement to violence.”
Republican lawmaker specifically addressed Waters to speak with protesters at a rally in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, on Saturday. Protests erupted in the city last week after police fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic stop on April 11th.
Waters told reporters Saturday that he “will fight with all those who stand for justice,” adding, “We have to do justice in this country and we cannot allow these killings to continue,” Fox News reported.
Daunte Wright’s murder occurs when former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is on trial on murder charges for the death of George Floyd last year. Floyd died after Chauvin knelt on his neck for several minutes during an arrest.
Asked about Chauvin’s trial, Waters told reporters that if Chauvin is not found guilty, “we need to stay on the street and be more active. We need to be more confrontational. To make sure they know we mean business.” , according to Fox News, in addition to making other comments about the trial and police brutality in the US
Greene said Sunday that Waters’ comments “provoked more violence and a tug-of-war against the National Guard in Minnesota in the early hours of this morning.”
Two guards were injured in the early hours of Sunday morning when a gunman fired at a security team in the Minnesota National Guard neighborhood and the Minneapolis Police Department, the Minnesota National Guard said.
However, National Guard officials did not provide any immediate evidence of who shot the police officers or a connection to Waters’ comments.
