Suspect killed after driving through Detroit crime scene, exchanging shots with police

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating after a wild and deadly scene depicted on Sunday morning on the west side of the city.

At 10:40 p.m. Sunday night, police were called to the McNichols Road and Ward Avenue area, where five people were reportedly shot. Police say the victims are between 18 and 36 years old and are still alive.

At the same time, in the same place there was a traffic accident that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

Detroit police say the two incidents are connected.

While police were investigating, a man went through the crime scene, hit an officer and fired shots at the vehicle, officials said.

The gunman drove away and was chased by police to the area of ​​8 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue on the east side of town. There, the subject allegedly got out of his vehicle and started firing at the officers again. Officials said officers returned fire.

The gunman was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His identity has not yet been released.
