Vaccinated people should continue to wear masks to reduce the risk of inadvertent infection of vulnerable people

Dr. Anthony Fauci defended the public health warning that vaccinated people should continue to mask themselves, saying it helps minimize the risk of the virus spreading to more vulnerable people.

Chuck Todd showed comments from Republicans like Ron DeSantis about messaging around vaccines and how people should continue to take proper mitigation right now after the vaccine.

Todd asked, “Why should a vaccinated person wear a mask?”

Fauci began by saying, “This is something that as we get more information it will be pulling back that it will not have to do.”

Right now, however, he said the goal is to reduce the risk of the virus spreading:

“When vaccinated, it is clearly reducing the risk of infection. This is one of the things we need to make sure everyone understands. Decrease it drastically. However, what happens is that you may become infected and have no symptoms, may not know you are infected, and may unintentionally go into a situation with vulnerable people. And if you don’t have any masks, you may inadvertently infect them. Now there is a small risk of that, but it is there.

He also warned about variants of Covid-19, noting that the vaccine “works very well” against a dominant variant in the United States.
