BOSTON – Kike Hernandez opened the game with a home run that required a video review and Bobby Dalbec negotiated a 14-throw ticket within a first inning of six runs that propelled the Red Sox to victory 11 on Monday. -4 over the Chicago White Sox in the first game of Patriots Day played without matching the Boston Marathon.
The marathon will be run on Oct. 11 due to restrictions imposed by the state of Massachusetts to prevent mass congregations of the public from the coronavirus pandemic. The Patriots Day game, which usually begins shortly after 11 a.m., has been staged at Fenway Park since 1959. Just 4,738 fans attended.
Lucas Giolito (1-1) was removed with two men in circulation without outs in the second. He tolerated eight runs – 7 p.m. net –eight hits, so his average effectiveness shot up from 2.55 to 5.79.
Nathan Eovaldi (3-1) equalized his personal limit with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and nine hits without tickets.
JD Martínez produced two runs with a lone homer and a single, while Mexican Alex Botxí shook off a lone home run.
