The U.S. vaccination rate has remained above 3 million shots a day for two consecutive weeks, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Tuesday.
This figure is based on an average of seven days of vaccinations reported daily and has fallen slightly in recent days, from a maximum of 3.4 million shots a day on April 13 to just over 3 million on Tuesday. .
About 40% of Americans have received at least one shot, according to CDC data, and about 1 in 4 is completely vaccinated.
US vaccines are administered
About 1.8 million vaccines were reported to have been administered in the U.S. on Tuesday, primarily reflecting weekend inoculations due to a lag in data reporting. Vaccination figures reported on Mondays and Tuesdays are usually the lowest of the week.
The average of seven days of daily information, which is used to smooth out the fluctuations in reports for the day of the week, is 3 million.
The slight drop in daily rate may be due in part to ongoing research on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier this month advised states to suspend use of the J&J shot “with great caution” after six women developed a rare blood clotting disorder. .
Although the J&J vaccine accounts for less than 4% of the total 213 million vaccines administered in the United States to date, it was being used for an average of about 425,000 shots a day at peak levels in mid-April. .
Government officials have said the country has enough supply of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to maintain a rate of 3 million shots a day.
Share of vaccinated population in the US
More than 133 million people, or 40.1% of the U.S. population, have received one or more doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. About one in four Americans is completely vaccinated.
Of those 65 years of age or older, more than 80% are at least partially vaccinated and 65% are fully inoculated.
Advances vary by country. In one state, New Hampshire, more than half of residents have received at least one punch, and Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts are on track to reach 50% in the next few days.
More than 40% of residents are vaccinated at least partially in 24 states and Washington, DC
In Mississippi and Alabama, only 30% of residents have been shot and that figure is 31% in Louisiana and 32% in Tennessee.
US Covid Cases
The United States reports an average of 63,800 new infections daily, based on a weekly average of data tracked by Johns Hopkins University. This level has been declining in recent days, but is above the most recent low of 53,600 average daily cases recorded at the end of March.
US Covid deaths
Nearly 700 daily coveted deaths are reported in the United States, based on an average of seven days of Hopkins data, from peak levels of about 3,400 daily in mid-January.
The total number of deaths nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic is more than 568,400.
