KISSIMMEE, Fla. – After deliberating for less than two hours, a jury found Wednesday Angel Rivera and his son, Christopher Otera-Rivera, guilty of killing and dismembering Nicole Montalvo in 2019.
Christopher Otero-Rivera and his father, Angel Rivera, were found guilty of second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body and manipulation of physical evidence in the death of Montalvo, Otero’s alienated wife. Rivera.
The verdict was read around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday. The sentencing will take place later. Prosecutor Ryan Williams said both men are eligible for life in prison, which will likely be his recommendation.

Montalvo, 33, disappeared in October 2019 after failing to pick up her 8-year-old son from school. Their dismembered remains were later found buried in Riveras properties. Otero-Rivera and Montalvo had a son together, but they separated at the time of his death.
The judge read the jury’s instructions on Wednesday morning before issuing a lunch break from 11:22 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., when the final discussions began.
Prosecutors said during the final arguments that the evidence showed the two men were guilty, while the defense said that if Montalvo had been murdered on the Riveras property on Hixon Avenue in St. Louis. Cloud, more blood would have been found.
After closing the arguments, the jury was dismissed around four-thirty in the afternoon to begin deliberation.
The state reinstated the case on Tuesday, as did the defense, which only called a witness to the stance.
Before the trial resumed on Tuesday, the judge dismissed a jury who said he slept on several occasions during the proceedings. The judge said jury no. 16 was removed from the case and replaced by an alternate jury.

A former fellow prisoner from Otero-Rivera testified Tuesday, saying Otero-Rivera wanted to kill Montalvo and mentioned the use of a car bomb. He was also called to testify a second fellow prisoner and said Otero-Rivera had talked about getting out of jail and killing Montalvo.
Jurors also heard a neighbor say he lives in front of Rivera’s property. The neighbor said Angel Rivera offered him $ 10,000 to kill Montalvo.
After the state rested, Otero-Rivera and his father said they would not take the position.
The defense only called one witness, Wanda Rivera, Angel’s wife and Christopher’s mother.
