President Luis Abinader thanked the Spanish government for providing vaccines to Latin American countries to receive the Pro Tempore Secretariat for the next Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the countries that have offered their support to our Pro Tempore Secretariat; at the same time I want to thank the solidarity of the Spanish government that will provide vaccines for Latin American countries,” said the first Dominican president.
In addition, during his speech at the transfer of the Pro Tempore Secretariat, Luis Abinader indicated that new and huge economic resources will be needed to strengthen growth prospects.
“Developed countries should be called upon to make a greater effort to channel these capitals that will allow us to mitigate the effects of pandemic debt and relaunch Latin American growth,” he added.
He also assured that his Pro Tempore Secretariat will manage the creation of a post-pandemic recovery fund.
“We will work hard to establish a recovery and restructuring fund that is the basis of a great regional alliance for development and that facilitates not only post-pandemic recovery, but the transition to a new, just economic order. , green and above all sustainable, “Abinader said.
President Abinader further said that the goals of the 2030 Agenda can only be achieved if the funding gaps are closed at the lowest possible cost to developing countries, otherwise nations could find serious difficulties in achieving their goals. sustainable development goals.
The President of the Republic also recalled that bilateral and multilateral cooperation was key to combating previous crises which threatened to destroy the growth of the region.
On this occasion, the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government brought together leaders of 16 of the 22 Ibero-American countries to discuss economic recovery, access to vaccines and the effect of the health crisis on the most vulnerable groups.
