Six UK football players face charges for first-degree robberies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Six University of Kentucky football players will be in court Friday.

We know everyone is accused of first-degree robberies.

Players are Reuben “RJ” Adams, Robert “Jutahn” McClain, Andru Phillips, Earnest Sanders IV, Vito Tisdale and Joel Williams.

According to police, on Saturday, March 6, 2021, a private party took place in a residence. During the party, three people entered the residence without being invited and were asked to leave. The individuals were upset and threatened to return.

Police say that shortly after, the three individuals returned with additional issues. The group was forced to enter the residence. A suspect was spotted pointing a gun at a victim.

Police say Tisdale has an additional high-risk charge because he says he was identified as the suspect who pointed the gun.

UK head coach Mark Stoops provided this statement:

“I am aware of the situation that arose today. Out of respect for the court process, I cannot comment on the charges. We have been aware of this issue since March, as we withheld players from team activities while conducting a review of student behavior. According to the result of the review, the players returned to activity in June. We are assessing the current situation as we receive more information. “

UK Athletics also issued its own statement:

“The institution and the athletics department take these issues very seriously. We are closely evaluating this issue before determining the next steps. “

The first game is about two weeks away. The UK takes Louisiana-Monroe on September 4 at Kroger Field.
