Apple plans to hold multiple product events in September, rather than its strategy last year to split fall product launches into three separate events split between September, October and November, according to sources who spoke with DigiTimes.
In a new report protected with payments today, the publication states that Apple “will host a series of product launch conferences in September,” with one of the highlights of the ninth-generation base iPad.
Apple has in store several products to launch this fall, ranging from the iPhone 13, the Apple Watch Series 7, the third-generation AirPods, an updated iPad mini, a new reference iPad and, of course, the ‘expected redesigned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
Last fall, Apple launched a similar range of products and, due to the global health crisis, all of the company’s events have been digital rather than face-to-face. The digital form of events has allowed Apple to plan versions of its products more carefully, as face-to-face events are more expensive and difficult to plan.
Apple’s first fall event in 2020 was on September 15, where Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 6, the Apple Watch Series SE, the eighth generation “iPad” and the redesigned iPad Air. Rumors at the time were contradictory about whether the flagship iPhones, which were historically launched in September, would be announced at the event.
Apple decided to dedicate the entire September event to the Apple Watch, its impact on the health of users and the iPad. The iPhone 12 series, along with the HomePod mini, was announced at the company’s second event less than a month later, on October 13th. Less than a month after the event, Apple held its silicon-focused event on Apple on November 10th.
The stage DigiTimes is reporting, where Apple will hold several events in a single month is not entirely impossible, but it may be unlikely. By having multiple events spread over several months, Apple is better equipped to ensure that all new devices stand out completely and appropriately.
Alternatively, Apple may consider the back-to-school season, where most students will return to digital or face-to-face learning in September. Some upcoming products, such as the iPad baseline, updatediPad mini updated and the redesigned MacBook Pros, may be popular with students and Apple may find it wants to target some of its new products to students returning to school.
In addition, today’s report of DigiTimes conforms to a previous release report, which states that the redesigned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros would be released in September. Laptops have recently gone into mass production.
While the timing of Apple’s events this fall isn’t explicitly stated, From Bloomberg Mark Gurman has reported that Apple will not launch all of its new products in a single event, but will split them into multiple online events.
