This morning the senator for the Dignity Project posted a video in which the comedian, Freddo Vega, can be seen playing his famous character Magda in the welcome of the Antonio Luchetti Vocational High School in Arecibo.
In the video you can see Magda dancing reggaeton with two adults while the students are enjoying the moment.
Senator Rodríguez Veve hinted that the events seen in the video are the ones that will be used to advance education with a gender perspective in the country’s school facilities. Following the legislator’s post, homophobic comments against Vega and her work flooded social media.
Faced with this, the young man reacted and said that “it hurts to read every derogatory comment and hate attack that has been raised against me about my sexual orientation, my person and my job.”
“Today I get up with posts on social media by religious organizations and leaders, using my image to raise a discussion about their fight against the gender perspective in the island’s schools. Their attempt to advance the his struggles have provoked homophobic attacks against me and messages of hatred that I would never wish on anyone. It hurts me, because I was there in a very professional way to do my job, which every day gives me food and what I so much enjoy doing, ”the 25-year-old actor has argued on networks.
Members of the country’s conservative sector, who have raised their claim against the gender perspective, called the young man a “transsexual” and even categorized his work as “disgusting”.
Vega confirmed that he is a man who dresses as a woman, but clarified that he does so “as an artistic expression with the vision of educating, motivating and looking for them by doing what I love.”
“I don’t see myself as a trans woman, although I love and respect my community. Magda is a character like any other who has emerged in our artistic community, like Pliny, Minga and Petraca and others who have been protagonists for years. of our television and entertainment, ”he added.
At the same time, the member of the program The Unemployed, which was broadcast by the spokesman, Called for respect for the LGBTTQ + community. “We don’t deserve any more hatred,” he delineated.
“As a believer in God, I believe there is no greater sin in this world than promoting hatred through misinformation. This controversy that some sectors have generated is a living example of the urgent need to transform education in the country. An educated population with a gender perspective would not have seen a gay man dressed in trans converting other young people, nor humiliating young people dressed in violet. Instead, they would have seen the reality: An artist looking for them through his character motivating and empowering students on the island who began a new academic challenge after so many vicissitudes, “he concluded.
It must be remembered that hateful posts to members of the LGBTTQ + community have lost their lives. The most recent case in Puerto Rico is that of Alexa, a transgender woman who was murdered after photos and videos of her person circulating on social media in which it was reported that a dressed man entered the bathroom.
