LONDON, Aug. 20 (Reuters) – The prevalence of COVID-19 infections in England was 1 in 80 people the week ended Aug. 14, the National Bureau of Investigation said Friday. British Statistics (ONS), slightly lower than the previous week’s estimate of 1 in 75.

The figures came after the government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson last month lifted almost all coronavirus restrictions, such as the mandatory use of masks in indoor public spaces.

The proportion of people who tested positive also fell in Scotland to about 1 in 200 people, while the trajectory remained uncertain in Northern Ireland, where about 1 in 50 had the virus.

The level rose in Wales to 1 in 130 people, the ONS said.
