PS4 exclusive, reportedly canceled

PlayStation has reportedly canceled an upcoming PS4 exclusive. With the life cycle of the PS4 at its end, it is planned to get some more exclusive games like Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok, but soon Sony’s first and second production will focus exclusively on the PS5. That said, one game PS4 users should never expect to see is the now-defunct PS4 exclusive, Wild, by Michael Ancel, the creator of both Rayman i Beyond good and evil. It’s been seven years since Wild was first announced for the PS4, and as a result, many have canceled it as vaporware or forgotten about it altogether. Suffice it to say that it should come as no surprise that, according to industry informant Jeff Grubb, it has been preserved.

The chronology of Wild begins in 2014, when Wild Sheep Studios, led by Michael Ancel, announced the open-world action-adventure game with survival elements as a PS4 exclusive. To date, it is unclear what Sony’s involvement with the game was, but it appears to have been a third-party relationship, suggesting, at the very least, that Sony provided resources for game development. .

A year later the second trailer of the game was released. And that was the last thing we saw of the game, which had a big buzz around. 2016, 2017 and 2018 were years of complete silence, minus an update in 2017 of the aforementioned Ancel with new screenshots. It wasn’t until 2019 that the game reappeared after Sony unveiled a trademark for the title. This prompted an update from Wild Sheep Studios, which confirmed that it was still working on the game. What followed was more silence until April 2020, when the game popped up again, this time because a new conceptual art of the game was posted on the Wild Sheep Studios website.

Since then, we haven’t seen or heard anything about the game, until this week, when Grubb, via Giant Bomb, announced that the project has been canceled. Unfortunately, Grubb does not combine this information with information about why it has been canceled.

As you know, Michael Ancel announced his retirement from the industry in 2020, so there is a possibility that his departure would rather contribute to the cancellation of the game.

That being said, so far none of this has been confirmed. Officially, the game is still in development until PlayStation or Wild Sheep Studios confirm that it is not. At the time of publication, neither party has commented on this report. If that changes, we’ll be sure to update the story accordingly. Meanwhile, grab it all with a grain of salt. While Grubb has proven to be reliable in the past, he has also been off the mark in the past.
