GREEN BAY, Russia. – The Jets continued to process the loss of defensive back Carl Lawson two days after the runner passed the left Achilles tendon ruptured and was lost for the season.
Lawson’s absence showed up on the field Saturday night, with the Jets putting little or no pressure on Packers third-string quarterback Kurt Benkert. The initial defense had no sack on the Jets ’23-14 preseason victory.
Head coach Robert Saleh said the Jets don’t want to add a runner right now, instead of rolling with whoever is on the roster. Bryce Huff got the start on Saturday.
“The NFL train stops for anyone,” Saleh said. “When someone falls off the train, it’s another opportunity for someone to jump on the train. There are a lot of men on this football team, especially in that place at point D who are fighting to get a chance and they have it ”.
Saleh said his main concern is for Lawson, who signed a three-year, $ 45 million contract in March and had been having a monster training camp before the injury on Thursday.

“He does everything a professional athlete is asked to do,” Saleh said. “You couldn’t ask for a more perfect money-free agent to come in and do things the right way. Despite charging, I wanted even more. For this to happen to him, this is where all my attention goes. I just feel bad for him. ”
The Jets defense may have lost another starter on Saturday. Winger Jarrad Davis left the game with an ankle injury in the second quarter. He limped out of the field, but needed a cart to return to the locker room. Saleh said the initial prognosis is good, but Davis would undergo further testing.
The starting defense did not play well. They dropped two long records against Green Bay backups. In a 19-game drive, the Jets allowed six third-down conversions.
“Look at those third-down opportunities and win individually on the perimeter, that’s the third downhill,” Saleh said. “This is life in the NFL. It’s two minutes. It is the cruel moment. This is a critical issue. … When you get to these third casualties, this is a break ”.
LB Noah Dawkins started with debutant Hamsah Nasirildeen, which was a surprise.
“I think Dawk has done a very nice job,” Saleh said. “He has had a 180 since the OTA. It has been extremely detailed. He has received additional meeting time. He has been more consistent with his responsibility. When he is on top and has the right eyes and feet on the ground, the child can fly flat. Especially with our defense, where we ask the boys to reduce the field and drown an offense and he is one of those guys who can do it ”.
QB Zach Wilson mocked the backup of James Morgan, who is from Green Bay and was excited to meet Aaron Rodgers.
“It simply came to our notice then. It was as if his girl was crumbling, “Wilson said.” Mine too, but I try not to show it. “
The Jets suffered a few different Davis injuries: DE Ronald Blair (hamstring), KR Corey Ballentine (knee), OT Conor McDermott (knee) and QB Mike White (ribs) left the game and will undergo further testing, he said. Saleh. … OT Morgan Moses and CB Bless Austin lost the match for personal reasons.
