The University of Virginia withdrew more than 200 students from its rolls for failing to meet the school’s coronavirus vaccine requirement.
Of the 238 students dropped out, only 49 were actually enrolled in the fall semester classes, which led to the belief that most students “may not be thinking about going back to college this fall,” the university spokesman said. , Brian Coy. an email to The Virginian-Pilot.
The students were withdrawn after “receiving several reminders via email, text messages, phone calls, calls to parents who were out of compliance and had until yesterday to update their status,” Coy said.
The university requires that all students, faculty, and staff be vaccinated before returning to their Charlottesville campus, unless they have a medical or religious exemption. Approximately 96.6% of the university’s 27,115 undergraduate and graduate students have been fully vaccinated, the university said earlier this week.
