A “dangerous storm surge” is expected to occur in the northeast on Sunday morning or early afternoon as Hurricane Henri turned into a tropical storm, according to a new warning.
But the National Hurricane Center at eight in the morning predicted that tropical storm conditions would begin “in the next couple of hours,” strong gusts of wind and flooding across wide northeast strips.

According to the NHC, the storm surge could cause rapid flooding and river flooding in sections of Long Island, New England.
There is a “storm surge warning” in place for the south shore of Long Island, from Mastic Beach to Montauk Point, New York, the north shore of Long Island.
Long Island from Montauk Point to Flushing New York, Flushing New York to Chatham Massachusetts, as well as Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island, according to an update from Hurricane Henri.


There is a slightly less severe “storm surge oversight” for East Rockaway Inlet at Mastic New York, north of Chatham Massachusetts at Sagamore Beach Massachusetts and Cape Cod Bay.
Previously, there was a hurricane warning in parts of Long Island, Connecticut and Rhode Island, before it was degraded in the early hours of Sunday.
According to NHC, a hurricane warning is effective for the south shore of Long Island, from Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point, on the north shore of Long Island, from Port Jefferson Harbor to Montauk Point, New Haven Connecticut as far west as Westport Massachusetts.

In New York City, there is a tropical storm warning in effect, according to the advisor. Tropical Storm Warning also applies to Port Jefferson Harbor, west of New Haven Connecticut, on the south shore of Long Island, west of Fire Island Inlet to East Rockaway Inlet, Westport Massachusetts to Chatham Massachusetts, including Martha’s Vineyard
and Nantucket, and New Jersey west of East Rockaway Inlet to Manasquan Island.
As of 7 a.m., the storm was moving north at 18 mph, with sustained winds of up to 70 mph, a warning warned. On Sunday, the images posted a tweet about 7 p.m. flooding affecting road traffic causing road closure in Middlesex County, New Jersey.
Hurricane Henri began wreaking havoc in New York City early Sunday, causing flooding that delayed subways and disrupted vehicular traffic. This came after heavy rain at the end of Saturday prematurely ended the city’s long-awaited and stellar “return concert” held in Central Park.
