Rachel Maddow decides to stay at MSNBC

Rachel Maddow, who was seriously considering finishing her long career at MSNBC, has decided to stay in the end.

Insider broke the news of Maddow’s new multi-year contract, which two people familiar with the matter confirmed to The Daily Beast.

Maddow, 48, will continue to host her nightly program, which has the highest ratings on MSNBC, but the new deal also requires her to pursue new projects with parent company NBC Universal.

“This uniquely positions Rachel and MSNBC to capitalize on the evolving and rapidly growing media landscape over the next few years,” one of the sources told The Beast.

As reported by The Daily Beast exclusively earlier this month, Maddow’s contract with NBC, where he has been since 2008, was due to expire early next year.

As recovery negotiations continued, sources said, he expressed interest in possibly leaving the cable channel and moving to the broadcast and podcasting space, in part to have more time with his family.

Before agreeing the new deal, he hired new agents: the powerful Endeavor and its CEO Ari Emanuel and President Mark Shapiro. The financial terms of the contract were unclear.
