Miguel Cabrera: Detroit Tigers first baseman becomes 28th player to join 500 home run club

Playing in his 19th season, Cabrera hit a 400-foot shot against Blue Jays pitcher Steven Matz in the sixth inning to reach 500 in his career and on the 13th of the year.

The last player to reach the milestone was David Ortiz, a former Boston Red Sox player, who reached his 500 home number on September 12, 2015. Cabrera joins Albert Pujols of the Los Angeles Dodgers as the only other active player to reach the milestone.

The 38-year-old now has four timid home runs from the record-breaking 504 home run of the famous Eddie Murray.

Cabrera is an eleven-time All-Star, four-time baptism champion and two-time American League MVP. In 2012 he became the first player to win the Triple Crown since Carl Yastrzemsi in 1967, after leading the American League in national races, RBI and batting average.

The Tigers slugger will be the sixth player in MLB history to have 500 home runs and 3,000 career hits. Sunday’s local day was his 2,955th career hit, and he now stands at 45 points out of 3,000.
