Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Toncontín Airport may remain as a bridge for the new Palmerola International Airport, confirmed the superintendent of the Superintendence of Public Private Alliance (SAPP), Leo Castellón.
“From that Palmerola Toncontín Airport is restricted to using 30-passenger aircraft. If they are local flights, regional flights will depend on supply and demand and possible agreements with neighboring countries to consider regional flights as local, ”the official explained.
Donat The distance between Palmerola (Comayagua) and Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, is 70 kilometers. |
Castellón said that “the possibility is open, as it will operate an airport that does not have the necessary flow to keep it operational, this should not become an additional burden for the state, which is why in the contract that there are all these possibilities for that Toncontín can serve as an air-land bridge with Palmerola“.
Palmerola International Airport will be ready to operate on October 15, but the departure of flights will depend on the airlines.
The airport of Toncontín, As established in the contract, remains active for domestic flights, not international, recalled Leo Castellón.
“It ‘s useless to keep Toncontín as international if the airlines themselves stop landing on demand, “the SAPP superintendent pointed out.
