ATLANTA – New York Yankees quarterback Zack Britton suffered another setback with an illness and was added to the 10-day injury list on Monday with a distension in his left elbow.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke ahead of the start of a major two-game series against the Atlanta Braves, and said they will assess Britton’s condition in the coming days to determine the best course of action.
Britton felt some elbow pain before Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. He underwent an MRI that showed “a small distension,” Boone said.
“We are now in the process of gathering several opinions to make sure we are all on the same page about the steps to follow and all,” Boone said. “We’ll probably know a little more in the next few days.”
This is Britain’s latest setback this season.
Britton could not make his debut until June 12 after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove a splinter in his left elbow bone. He later spent more time on the injured list due to a sprained tendon.
Britton, 33, had eight rescues and an effectiveness of 1.89 during the abbreviated 2020 season due to the pandemic. But he has battled this season, with a 0-1 record, 5.89 ERA and a save in 22 appearances.
