Indeed, the Constitutional Court of Cape Verde has just received a formal request requesting a period of 30 days for the United States judiciary to oppose a new appeal defended by Nicolás Maduro’s appointed ringleader andn the session of last August 13th.
In a document, filed in the last hours, the federal prosecutor points out that the deadline is necessary because the group that currently carries the case for money laundering against the barranquillero is new.
According to the motion, cited by Miami Herald, Current officials “They were not part of the government team during the trial before the District Court (Which brings the case to Miami) and they were unfamiliar with the case. “
And they add that 30 days are needed for the position of the new prosecutors to be examined by supervisors of the Department of Justice.
The request baffled to those who believed the Constitutional was taking the final deadline to define whether or not to extradite Saab.
What does the resource say?
What is striking is that the appeal filed by the defense of Saab, in a 15-minute exposition, has the same elements that have been alleging since was captured on June 12, 2020.
They claim that his capture was illegal, as he was a special envoy, hosted by an alleged diplomatic immunity. Also, that the red circular with which he was detained when he was on his way to Iran, was in his name of his Colombian partner Álvaro Polit, another of the defendants.

And they end by saying that the case against Maduro’s ‘special envoy’ is based on political arguments, Against the government of Venezuela.
However, America has been emphatic in that Saab is not immune to immunity, in which he is a fugitive and, in addition, that he is a key figure in the Venezuelan regime that knows agreements below the table with Iran, Turkey and Russia.
Besides, they warn that in the Indictment against also appears Polished. In fact, the process was extended to other members of their family environment.
What’s next?
Now, we will have to wait for the Constitutional Court to define whether to grant the term requested by the prosecutor, which would delay the final decision. at least until next October.
Meanwhile, governments like that of Russia and Iran continue to send messages to Cape Verde warning that extradition would be arbitrary and illegal. In fact, Moscow assured that there would be consequences against the countries involved in the process.

Under this climate, Cape Verde will have to make a fundamental decision.
