Amidst our boundless excitement for upcoming versions like Taco Bell’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco i McDonald’s last all-day breakfast buffet, we need to find space in our heart and mind to have even more enthusiasm, because Wendy’s announced today in a call that it will release a new french fried recipe next month. Adding a lost sandwich or pastry to the menu is one thing, but when you stick with french fries, you mean a business. Wendy’s, you have our attention.

According to the online industry publication Restaurant business, is the first time Wendy’s has changed its fried recipe in more than ten years. The reason for the redesign has nothing to do with an unsatisfactory taste or changes in costs, at least not as far as we know. The real reason behind the innovation has to do with keeping the chips fried for the duration of a delivery, a consideration that recently existed five or ten years ago.

“We had to make sure our chips were up to par with the delivery experience, so they had the same texture of fried and crispy,” explained Emily Kessler, senior kitchen and innovation specialist at Wendy’s.

It is true that decisions that are tailored specifically to delivery are a sign of the times. During the pandemic, Wendy’s ended up collaborating with more delivery services in order to get the food into the hands of customers who no longer traveled from work to work and whose delivery business has not shrunk since. When the customer travels to the road and buys food to take home, the rapid deterioration in the quality of the fries is not really a problem; people often start eating french fries in the car before they get home, and they tend to stop near where they live. But when a delivery driver has to travel all the way home, the food stays intact for longer and Wendy’s wants to avoid wet food disasters.

The new chips will be skin-based, with a new type of dough coating that will presumably keep it fresh for longer. They will be available in the United States nationwide in mid-September, before launching in Canada and other locations around the world.

Best of all, Kessler confirms that the fries hold up best to soak in a frosty. Everyone who doesn’t love this combination of sweet and salty he is lying.
