First commercial batch of Covaxin released from new Bharat Biotech plant | News from India

NEW DELHI: Covaxin’s first commercial batch was launched on Sunday from the new Bharat Biotech plant in Ankleshwar, Gujarat’s Bharuch district, by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
“Vaccination is the most important thing to strengthen the country’s fight against coronavirus. It released today the first commercial batch of #COVAXIN from Bharat Biotech’s plant in Ankleshwar, Gujarat. This will increase the supply of vaccines in the country and help the vaccine will reach all countries in India, ”Mandaviya tweeted shortly after the event.

Earlier this month, the government had approved Bharat Biotech’s Ankleshwar-based manufacturing plant to produce the Covid-19 Covaxin vaccine.
In May, Bharat Biotech announced that it planned to produce an additional 200 million doses of Covaxin at its subsidiary facilities in Ankleshwar. The Hyderabad-based firm had stated that it would use the manufacturing plant of its wholly-owned unit, Chiron Behring, to add 200 million doses of Covaxin.
India administered 63.09 million doses of vaccine against Covid-19 on a national route until Sunday morning, according to data released by the Union Ministry of Health.
