Tim Cook wants to release a large category of more products before retiring

Although CEO Tim Cook has previously said he would not be at Apple in a decade, sources say he wants to launch at least one new and important product category before he leaves.

In the latest issue of Mark Gurman’s “Power On” newsletter, there is talk of Cook’s future at Apple. The report again covers the chronology of Apple’s next big rumors, as well as a potential year for Apple’s departure from Cook.

The report delves into rumors that Apple has virtual reality headsets for 2022 and that the “AR Apple Glass” may be worn sometime in the mid-decade. It also discusses Apple’s automotive efforts, but there is no clear timetable in this regard.

“The belief within Apple is that Cook just wants to stay with a new, more important product category, which is likely to be augmented reality glasses instead of a car, which is still beyond,” Gurman writes. . “He also understands that running a Silicon Valley business is usually a game for young people, and he won’t stay far beyond his best moment.”

In April, Cook was asked in an interview if he would still be with Apple in a decade.

“Ten more years? Probably not,” Cook said. “But I can tell you that I feel really good right now and the date isn’t in sight. But ten more years is a lot, and probably not ten more years.”

Swisher asked him what plans he had for after he left and what he could do when Apple was left behind.

“I have no idea why I love this company so much, that it’s hard to imagine my life without it,” he said. “And so I don’t think I’ll know until after I’m here. Because I think I’ll run so fast that I’ll never think about it until I don’t run anymore. Does that make sense?”

Cook has been Apple’s CEO for just over a decade, following a period of management of the company during the illness of founder Steve Jobs.
