Santo Domingo, RD.

The Collective of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transgender, intersex and queer organizations in the Dominican Republic will hold the 13th edition of the Glbtiq National Pride Caravan this Sunday.

Under the motto ‘Only a secular state would set us free !, the Network of Volunteers of Friends Always Friends (Revasa) and Friends Always Friends (ASA), traced the route that will begin on Avinguda del Port at 2 : 00 pm to then walk through different sectors of the city of Santo Domingo, which according to the statement aims to draw the attention of the authorities and the Dominican people.

“It will be a festive social demonstration and vindication of our rights to be Dominicans, and so that it can be enjoyed by all the inhabitants of Santo Domingo,” said Leonardo Sanchez, executive director of Friends Always Friends (ASA).

The route includes the passage through the Colonial City, Ciutat Nova, Gascue, Eixample Kennedy, Vila Joana, Vila María, Eixample Luperón, Barri Llibertat, Social Improvement and San Carlos.

Revasa coordinator Daniel Benítez said the call is being made “for all men and women who believe in democracy, human rights and freedom, in order to join this party of human diversity “.

With the march, the glbtiq Collective seeks to testify that coexistence between human beings, under the premise of mutual respect for differences, is possible in Dominican society.

In addition, the march aims to denounce the social exclusion experienced by thousands of gay men and women in the country, as they say their hopes for personal and collective development are limited, as they cannot access health, education and justice.

“We demand that our Penal Code be inclusive. And that the Constitutional reform proposed by our President correct the inconsistencies of the current one,” added AS executive director.

The 13th Glbtiq Dominican Pride Caravan will have the support of various civil society institutions, as well as public institutions, NGOs, international organizations and embassies.

It will also have special guests, as well as the presence of the kings and queens of the Dominican Glbtiq Pride 2021.
