New state of emergency finds low incidence of virus

With an incidence and positivity of Covid-19 virus placed in the epidemiological safety zone, but with a slight tendency to rise; with 4,007 cumulative deaths and more than 4.6 million people vaccinated with two doses, the country kicked off a new state of emergency this weekend due to the pandemic.

The new extension of the State of Emergency for 45 days came into force this Saturday, after being promulgated by decree 528-21 by President Luis Abinader, the one-year mandate has been completely under State of Emergency for Covid-19, a condition in which the country has been living since March 18, 2020.

According to yesterday’s record, out of every 100 lab samples that were processed, 10 more were positive for viruses and the positivity of the last four weeks was set at 5.55%. Both indicators have been registering a slight increase in recent days,

after maintaining a downward trend for several weeks.

One year and five months

This is the ninth extension of the state of emergency of President Luis Abinader, after taking power in August 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which allows him to Government to adopt different measures and actions, including controlling the mobility of people through curfew statements.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the country has maintained different forms of curfew. Currently, the control of citizen mobility remains in force from 11 pm, with a grace of two hours, in most provinces of the country.

So far only the National District and the province of La Altagracia are outside these restrictions for having reached 70% of their population immunized with two doses of vaccine against the virus.

11 million doses

As of last Saturday, the country registers a total of 11 million, 70 thousand 842 doses of vaccines against the Covid-19 virus applied in population over 18 years.

Of this total, 4,623,226 people already have the full two-dose immunization schedule, while 651,775 have received booster doses, ie a third dose recommended by the Government to ensure greater protection against the virus. The first dose has been applied in 5, 790,794 people.

In the recently issued decree 528-21, it is established that the State of Emergency declared in the national territory by decree number 265- is extended for another 45 days, from August 28, 2021. 20 to combat the pandemic generated by Covid-19.

421 hospitalized

Yesterday the country registered 239 new positive cases of Covid-19 virus, but did not report any new deaths due to the disease. The virus was first diagnosed in Dominican territory on March 1, 2020.

Hospitalizations for Covid-19 continue to decline in the country, with the registration yesterday of 421 patients admitted to the network of public and private centers in the country with areas for patients with the virus. Bed occupancy was 16%.

In Intensive Care Units (ICUs) 136 patients were reported for an occupancy of 22% of the enabled beds and of these 81 were connected to ventilation for 16% of ventilator occupancy.

Bulletin number 528 issued yesterday by the Directorate General of Epidemiology (DIGEPI) reported that 3,807 laboratory samples were processed in the last 24 hours, of which 239 were new positive cases of virus, for a daily positivity of 10.00% and the accumulated in the last four weeks of 5.55%.
