Utah confirms 3,329 cases of COVID-19 new weekends, 715 in children

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah health officials reported 3,329 new cases of COVID-19 since Friday and five deaths.

School-age children account for at least 715 of these new cases: 298 cases are children between the ages of 5 and 10, 205 cases from 11 to 13 years old and 212 from 14 to 18 years old, according to the Utah Department of Health .

School cases reported by the state health department probably do not account for all school cases, as there may be a delay in reporting, health officials say. Local health departments use the most appropriate data to determine actions in certain schools.

Friday brought 1,604 new cases; 1,129 were confirmed Saturday; and 601 tested positive on Sunday. A total of 23,026 people were tested since Friday, with a positive rate of 14.5%. The average of seven days of positive tests is 1,263 per day, and the percentage of positive people tested is 15.1%.

State health workers have administered 20,683 more vaccines since Friday’s report, bringing total vaccinations in the state to 3,249,729. Just over 49% of all Utahns are fully vaccinated.

In the last 28 days, unvaccinated residents have had a 4.9-fold higher risk of dying from COVID-19, a 6.2-fold higher risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19, and a 5-fold risk. 1 times greater than positive for COVID-19 than vaccinated individuals. , said health department officials.

As of Feb. 1, data show that people who are not vaccinated in Utah have a six-fold higher risk of dying from COVID-19, a 5.5-fold higher risk of being hospitalized from COVID -19 and a 4.8 times higher risk of testing positive for COVID. -19 than vaccinated people.

But more than 500 confirmed cases over the weekend are Utahns that have already been vaccinated. 557 advanced cases were reported, 21 hospitalizations were advanced patients and one of the deaths was confirmed as someone who had been fully vaccinated more than two weeks earlier.

There were 10,061 cases, 552 hospitalizations and 50 deaths among which were considered fully vaccinated, well below the 1% of recent cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the state.

On Monday, 465 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, 178 of whom in intensive care units. The referral ICUs that can treat the most severe cases were 88.5% full with coronavirus and other patients. The general use of hospitals stood at 57.7%.

The latest deaths from COVID-19:

  • A woman from Box Elder County, aged 25 to 44, who was hospitalized when she died.
  • A Salt Lake County man, aged 65 to 84, was admitted to hospital.
  • A Salt Lake County man, aged 45 to 64, was admitted to hospital.
  • A Washington County woman, ages 45 to 64, not hospitalized.
  • A man from Washington County, over 85, was admitted to the hospital.
