Chiefs have spoken of trades for OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif could be on the commercial block. Chiefs have received calls from offensive line leader Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, reports Albert Breer of MMQB. Complicating a trade is the fact that Duvernay-Tardif has a non-trade clause, making it “more likely” to continue on the Kansas City list.

Although he was a full-time starter for the 2015-19 Chiefs, Duvernay-Tardif were not guaranteed his former job as the Chiefs focused on renewing their offensive line this past season. While the linebacker started 14 games in Kansas City in 2019, he participated in the 2020 campaign while helping fight COVID-19. The 30-year-old also suffered a broken bone in his hand earlier this month and his recovery was going to cut him off for the start of the season.

After looking Patrick Mahomes running for their lives in the Super Bowl against the fierce passing of the Bucs, the Chiefs made it a priority to check their O line. Orlando Brown Jr., drafted center Creed Humphrey in the second round, and signed veteran guards Austin Blythe i Kyle Long. Duvernay-Tardif struggled with the election of the sixth round Trey Smith for the initial right guard concert, a job the rookie probably got after the injury to the veteran’s hand.

However, given Duvernay-Tardif’s initial experience, it’s no surprise that the teams are interested. The sixth-round pick has started 57 of his 60 games since entering the NFL in 2014.
