ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has extended Covid-19 restrictions to 27 of the previous 13 cities to control the fourth wave of the pandemic in the country, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said.
The new restrictions will take effect from Sept. 1 nationwide, according to which all commercial activities except essential services, including supermarkets and pharmacies, will be suspended at 8 p.m., he said. the department leading the country’s campaign against the pandemic in a statement.
Under the restrictions, markets in all 27 cities will remain closed twice a week, while indoor dining halls, indoor weddings, shrines and movie theaters, amusement parks and swimming pools will remain closed nationwide, according to the news agency. Xinhua.
The NCOC has also banned sports activities such as boxing, martial arts, rugby, water polo and wrestling.
According to the statement, outdoor weddings are allowed with a limited number of people and eating and eating outdoors across the country.
All public and private offices and public transport are allowed to operate at a capacity of 50% and railways at a capacity of 70% nationwide.
Educational activities in schools will be allowed three times a week at a capacity of 50%, the statement added.
The country has reported 3,909 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the overall count of infected people to 1,152,481 nationwide, the NCOC said.
Sindh province has been the hardest hit, with a total of 429,422 cases, followed by Punjab, where the virus has been infected by 389,688 people.
A total of 25,604 people died from Covid-19 in Pakistan, the NCOC said.
Currently, the country has 93,504 active cases, while another 1,033,373 have recovered.
The vaccination campaign in the country has also picked up pace, with some 39,951,787 partially vaccinated and 15,269,699 fully inoculated in the country, according to the latest official data.
