LOS ANGELES: One of baseball’s most beloved stadium gifts is bobblehead and Mookie Betts made her first Dodgers bobblehead night even more memorable than anyone could have crafted.
It was a family affair Monday night at Dodger Stadium as Betts ’mother, Diana Benedict, and her brother Mark, attended their bobblehead night celebration and Diana threw the first throw with dismay. They had seats in the front row behind the home plate to see Betts and the Dodgers in a 2020 NLCS rematch against the Atlanta Braves.
When Betts took to the set in the third inning, he didn’t hesitate to apply his spin at home with a quick 1-1 ball from Braves starter Drew Smyly. He traveled 378 feet to left field and rocked Dodger Stadium.
When he crossed the plate, he grabbed his mother cheering him on and jumping with excitement. He kissed her as he trotted back into the cavity, with a smile for the first baseball coach of his life.
