Baldo: The Guardian Owls, a great Ghibli-inspired RPG from Naps Team, has been on our radar for a couple of years and it’s been quite a while since it was featured on the Nintendo Indie World Showcase in March 2020 .
Originally scheduled to launch last summer, the revised release date of August 27, 2021 came and went last week and eagle-eyed readers will have noticed a lack of review on the site. In fact, if you’ve followed the progress of the game, you may have noticed a lack of general reviews: at the time of writing Metacritic pages for the game on all platforms, they have no critical opinion.
As it was a highly anticipated game, we contacted Italian developers Naps Team earlier this month to ask if the pre-release revision code would be available. Since a small team automatically publishes a game on multiple platforms, it’s not uncommon for things to go up in thread, but the code wasn’t published and we ended up buying the game when it was released last Friday. We have been working on the review ever since.
In the course of our reproduction process so far, we have encountered some problems and errors related to progress. Finally, we were able to get past the front door (thanks, reddit), but it’s far from navigating with the current version.
Naps Team has been activated Twitter and Facebook will soon discuss a patch that is supposed to address these issues:
As you can see, a patch fell on Xbox yesterday and we look forward to the first Switch update (one of several revisions come) will follow soon.
Given that our progress is stalled and updates are imminent, we will delay the release of our Baldo review until we can test the new version of the game and finish it. We cannot set an exact time period when the review can be expected, but rest assured that we are working on it.
