‘Tony’ Hernández is sent to a maximum security prison

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras.- Former Honduran MP Juan Antonio “Tony” Hernandez will serve his sentence in the Victorville prison of California.

Days ago, the U.S. Federal Prisons Bureau materialized the transfer of “Tony” Hernandez to the place where he will spend the rest of his life, after being sentenced to life imprisonment for his implications in drug trafficking.

The prison of Victorville is located in San Bernardino County and is considered a maximum security prison. There are a total of 996 male inmates in this prison, according to official data from the same prison. Among his most notable inmates, Victorville has housed Miguel Car Quintero, brother of Mexican leader Rafael Car Quintero.

In March 2021, the former Honduran congressman was sentenced to life imprisonment for being found guilty of drug trafficking. Hernandez participated in the importation of at least 185,000 kilograms of cocaine into the United States and secured millions of dollars in bribes to Honduran officials, prosecutors concluded. “Hernandez earned at least $ 138,500,000 in his drug trafficking activities,” U.S. researchers said.
