Báez’s aggressive career gives Mets the win

NEW YORK – Javier Báez ran home from the start to score the run that ended the game on a Michael Conforto single, and the New York Mets outscored the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Tuesday.

With his annotation to the Boricua Báez he received acclaim from the fans with whom he had enmity days before.

In the resumption of a rain-suspended match on April 11, the Mets scored five runs in the final inning and won the engagement when Báez scored, following a Marlins error.

Báez was scolded for joining as an emerging hitter in the eighth episode, hours later apologizing for revealing on Sunday that a celebration recently adopted by the team, putting their thumbs down, was an indirect criticism of fans.

The public had shouted at the team amid their recent hardships.

Fans chanted Báez’s name in the ninth inning, when he went on to beat with two on board, two outs and the Mets at a 5-3 disadvantage. He was beaten with a bat inside the box to put the board 5-4, which generated a standing ovation from the few fans who came to the evening duel.

Then, Conforto beat a single shot by the line of the anteroom against Dylan Floro (5-5). Báez ran from the start to the plate when Colombian left fielder Jorge Alfaro could not control the ball.

Originally, plate umpire Tim Timmons scored that receiver Alex Jackson had touched Báez, who dived no man. Then he saw that the ball had escaped, and decreed safe.

The New York attack began with a two-run homer by Brandon Nimmo.

Dominican Jeurys Family (8-3) solved the top of the ninth inning perfectly.

For the Marlins, Colombian Alfaro 4-0. The Dominicans Mart 1-0, Jesús Sánchez 5-1, Bryan de la Cruz 3-1 with a tow, Magneuris Serra without an official turn but with a score. The Venezuelans Jesús Aguilar of 5-1 with two boosts, Miguel Rojas of 4-1 with one scored and one push, Elieser Hernández of 1-0. Puerto Rican Isan Diaz 1-0.

For the Mets, the Puerto Ricans Lindor 3-0, Báez 1-1 with one scored and one produced. Dominican Jonathan Villar 4-1 with a score and a push.
