Thandiwe Newton has yet to star in any superhero movies, though he revealed in a new interview that he turned down a role in one.
The 48-year-old actress was promoting her new film Reminiscence, which debuted in theaters and on HBO Max earlier this month.
While promoting the film in a new interview with LADBible, the actress said that despite rejecting the other film, she is open to starring in the superhero genre.

“I was offered a role playing the mother of someone who had just died. She said, ‘Meh, no.’ It was more of a role, you know what I mean?” Newton said.
While she didn’t identify what a superhero movie she was, she made it clear that she would be open to starring in a superhero movie in the future.
“I love what’s going on with these genres now, where filmmakers are f ***** g with the genre,” Newton said.

He added that his “perfect example” of what he was talking about is director Taika Waititi, who directed the 2017 superhero sequel Thor: Ragnarok.
“I love that the actors who want to really want to push it, of course they do; it’s boring otherwise, Jesus,” he added.
He also praised the 2019 HBO series Watchmen, which opened in the most unconventional way, highlighting the 1921 Tulsa massacre.

Perfect Example: He added that his “perfect example” of what he was talking about is director Taika Waititi, who directed the 2017 superhero sequel Thor: Ragnarok.
“It is a critical theory of races, you know, that looks to the past and merges with it in the present so that we have a better understanding of our future,” he added.
Still, he mentioned, “As a genre, I was bored with these big franchises, and I’m also pretty cynical, because it’s just money; it’s that big amount of money that’s like moving forward to raise more money, right?”
Still, he believes, “there’s a demand” from the public that superhero movies have “a better substance around these superhero things.”

Critic: “This is the theory of critical race, you know, looking to the past and merging with it in the present to have a better understanding of our future,” he added.

Cynical: Still, he mentioned that, “As a genre I was given these big franchises, and I’m also pretty cynical, because it’s just about money; it’s that big amount of money that’s like moving forward to raise more money, right ?
He added that we don’t need “artificial superheroes” when we actually have “superheroes on the ground” in real life.
“I remember when Obama was president and there was the Met Ball (and he was a Met Ball superhero) and someone said to me,‘ Who is your favorite superhero? I was like “Barack Obama.”
“Why should they be fantasy? They shouldn’t be fantasy,” he added.
