President Luis Abinader considered yesterday that the project of rehabilitation and expansion of the Port of Manzanillo is vital to position the country in the highest levels of competitiveness at the level of the entire region.
“It’s a commitment to an interconnected, global world that moves goods and provides services to all parts of the planet,” President Abinader said at a working meeting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The president thanked the American specialists for their help, advice and contributions in the implementation of this ambitious goal, so important for the country of the future that it is building in its management.
It is, he stressed, a macro project that has a significant investment for its implementation by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and will generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs.
Emphasizing that it is a major transformation that brings with it positive changes for the country, he stressed that its construction will boost the local economy as well as maritime trade activity to and from the Dominican Republic.
President Abinader, in welcoming U.S. Army engineers, said, “I am honored to receive you today to open a dialogue, in which I invite all of you to participate. actively, offering their opinions and anything that can be enriching, ”he added.
He stated that the Dominican Republic is a country full of opportunities and spaces for the creation, innovation and development of import and export trade.
“A country that is responsibly preparing to face a future of development, of equal opportunities, and in which the government is making a huge investment effort to achieve the modernization of our essential infrastructure,” he indicated.
