Person who had a deadly knife by Jones County officers

HAMMER, Iowa (KCRG) – On Tuesday evening, a person was killed in a shooting at an agent in Jones County Territory.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a large-scale fire on 23966 42nd Street in Martelle.

As they responded to the fire, officials said deputies came across a person who had a knife. Officers ordered the individual to drop the knife, but said the person did not comply.

Several police officers from the surrounding community also responded to the situation.

Two deputies from the Jones County Commissioner shot at the individual, who was beaten and died at the scene. Deputies have been put on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.

In addition, three officers from the Anamosa police department and a deputy from Linn County unloaded their weapons and have also been placed on administrative leave, in accordance with the standard protocol.

Officials say non-lethal and lethal rounds were used.

The Iowa Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the shooting and the Iowa State Fire Commissioner’s Office is investigating the fire.

The name of the person shot is expected to be published after notification of the family.
