Moderna’s vaccines produced in Spain that were blocked in Japan after finding impurities in the vials contained “steel particles,” the pharmaceutical company announced today, adding that the anomaly does not pose a health risk.
These are the findings of the research and laboratory analysis conducted by the US pharmaceutical company and its distributor in Japan, Takeda, following the decision of the Japanese Government to block 1.63 million doses of the vaccine after detect foreign substances in some vials.
The wreckage is believed to come from “a production line device” and “does not pose a medical risk,” according to a joint statement released Wednesday by Moderna and Takeda after the investigation in which The Spanish pharmaceutical company Rovi, which produces and packages the vaccine for the Japanese market, among others, has also taken part.
