Gio Urshela of the Yankees received an MRI after injuring his left hand

Gio Urshela was left out of the Yankees’ 4-1 win over the Angels on Wednesday and is scheduled to get an MRI after injuring his left hand in Tuesday’s loss, according to Aaron Boone.

Boone said Urshela fell into his hand when he landed with the double delayed steal, when Urshela grabbed a shot from Gary Sanchez at second base and immediately threw home in an attempt to get Shohei Ohtani to steal it with success.

Urshela has just returned from the left hamstring tendon that left him out for a month. Andrew Velazquez started Wednesday on the short field, with Rougned Odor in third place.

Gleyber Torres is expected to play a final rehab match with Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre on Thursday after the SWB match on Wednesday was exhausted.

If all goes well, Torres will return to the Yankees on Friday when they begin a home run against Baltimore. He came out with a torn left thumb.

Even when Torres returns, Boone said he hoped Bronaz native Velazquez would continue on the list.

As for the smell, it has recently dropped to a routine of 2 to 30.

Luis Severino is still playing catch-up after being tightly strapped to his shoulders as he warmed up to begin SWB rehabilitation on August 13th. It has been another missed season for the right-back, who was returning from Tommy John surgery in 2020 when he tensed his groin during a rehabilitation start that pushed back his return and then treated his shoulder tightness.

Boone said Severino could play some role again this season, though perhaps as a reliever, as it would be “difficult” to build as a starter in a month.

Domingo German, in IL with swollen shoulders since early August, could do a bullpen session this weekend.

The Yankees could have used them this month, especially with a 20-day stretch without a day off, and instead they could turn to Luis Gil, who has pitched well in three starts with the Yankees this season.

Boone said Giancarlo Stanton had to spend a day off for a while and that he “probably” should have rested on Tuesday, so the right-wing slugger could be in lineup to face the left-wingers. Angels, Packy Naughton.

Boone said it was hard not to play Stanton, who has reached base in 26 of his last 27 games and has a dozen RBI during his last nine to go along with five homers in his previous eight.

The Rosters expanded from 26 to 28 on Wednesday and the Yankees remembered OF Estevan Florial and right-hander Brooks Kriske from Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre. They had been with the taxi staff.

Boone’s father, Bob, resigned from his role in the Washington Nationals office because of his vaccination mandate for full-time employees. Aaron Boone, who received a pacemaker to treat heart disease during spring workouts, was vaccinated earlier this year.
