Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst answered questions for about 18 minutes Wednesday after training his staff of 53 men and 16 coaches.
These are the highlights:
– Gutekunst said the Packers “didn’t have much to say” in the decision to play the first week in Jacksonville.
– Gutekunst on the change of pointer: “We always look for the opportunity to improve.” New striker Corey Bojorquez had a “fantastic year at Buffalo last year” and was impressed with his performance this preseason with the Rams.
– Gutekunst confirmed that Hunter Bradley will remain the long trap. “It simply came to our notice then. In the games, he has only had a handful of snapshots that we would consider not fantastic ”.
– The Packers did “the best” for David Bakhtiari and the team getting on the PUP list. The ACL recovery interval is usually 9 to 11 months. “Driving it over there wouldn’t be anything I was comfortable with,” Gutekunst said.
– Faith in Elgton Jenkins on the left did not take into account Bakhtiari’s decision.
– Gutekunst considered the competition along the offensive line to be “fantastic”. He said the depth and competition were “as good as the ones we’ve had here in a long time.”
– Gutekunst said Za’Darius Smith’s injury did not affect the composition of the roster. He tries to get back to week 1, but the Packers won’t rush him back.
– “He kept playing, honestly,” Gutekunst told unrecruited rookie Jack Heflin, who formed the team.
– “I thought I had a fantastic camp, really,” Gutekunst told Jordan Love. He said he saw the “growth” he needed to see. She called him “put” and calm under the pressure. “I thought it was very, very positive.”
– Gutekunst said it was not difficult to keep only two quarterbacks. That was the plan. Happy to be back with Kurt Benkert in the training squad.
– “He won the whole camp,” Gutekunst told Malik Taylor, the sixth receiver. He said it increased when it mattered most in the preseason.
– Gutekunst believes Isaac Yiadom was physically against the race during the preseason. He will participate in special teams.
– Gutekunst said Jake Hanson was working on an injury situation last year as a rookie. He was healthy this summer and the “real talent” came out. “I thought I had a great camp.” He said he was “proud” that Hanson was working through the injury.
– Gutekunst said Amari Rodgers will help in attack and in the return match as a rookie. “I think it will impact.”
– Gutekunst said Bojorquez did “very good things” in the cold weather games with the Bills. The Packers watched him after he went to Los Angeles. “We’re thrilled to get it.”
– Gutekunst reiterated that he believes the offensive line is as deep as he remembers.
– Gutekunst said the packers who were so far behind in the waiver claim order played a role in the team negotiating with Bojorquez. They didn’t think they would get the player unless there was a trade.
– Gutekunst said he had “very good” conversations with Aaron Rodgers during camp. There was communication about the “why” with all the people needed during the final cuts to the list.
