Abinader will participate in dialogue for reforms and says “we have our own agenda”

President Luis Abinader confirmed that he will take part in one or more of the discussions on the 13 reforms proposed by the Government in the National Dialogue, in which he does not want to impose ideas, “but we have our own agenda to make it more productive.”

Although discussions will continue on the 15th of this month, the president does not specify whether he will be present in this second round, but insists that he wants the participation of all sectors.

The president stressed that it is in the primary interest of the Government for society to participate in the dialogue table, to address crucial issues for the country.

He said he will be present in one or more of the discussions related to the thirteen reforms that will be discussed, among them, for efficient health; the social pact, tax reform, the continuation of the electricity pact and digital transformation and adaptation.

The first meeting that took place last Monday, which he did not attend, but was chaired by Vice President Raquel Peña, the head of state said that fEU to coordinate the protocol to be followed in the deliberations at the headquarters of the Economic and Social Council (ESC).

Abinader said that it is in the interest of the authorities to encourage an open conversation with the different social and political sectors of the country.

He assured that the Government promotes and encourages a plural and participatory dialogue. “We are pushing it with all the determination, with all the firmness, with all the patriotism that these reforms deserve.”

He recalled that many of the issues on the agenda have already been discussed and consulted with various sectors of the country, which should allow a productive and consensus dialogue to be expedited and concretized for the benefit of Dominican society.

President Abinader stated that the authorities are looking for the country’s social base to be represented in the discussions and approvals of the proposed reforms, with the aim of making them more transparent, democratic and inclusive.

In this regard, he ruled that the government does not want to impose ideas, “but we have our own agenda to make it more productive, I want the whole society to participate,” he said.

The president said the mission of the authorities is to ensure an open conversation and sincere, without impositions, although he clarified, that in each one of the thematic proposals for the reforms “if we will have agenda in each one of these subjects”.

Abinader said that the country demands social transformations that ensure a greater participatory space in the face of local and international reality.

The president added that these reforms need to be known by the grassroots of society without discrimination, And cited that at the National Palace every Thursday, and inside as well, are heard and received representatives of neighborhood councils and the most diverse sectors of the country, where the authorities know directly their needs and aspirations.

He described it as a great experience for every government official to be able to communicate directly with true representatives of society, without intermediation and proceeding to register their needs and aspirations.
