Fortress lights up blue for Prostate Cancer Prevention Month

The lights of the Fortress were lit blue today, Wednesday, to raise awareness about this condition and to warn about the importance of prevention to save lives.

About 17 percent of Puerto Rican men die from prostate cancer making the island one of the places with the highest death toll in the world due to the disease.

Earlier, Puerto Rican Governor Pedro R. Pierluisi delivered a proclamation to representatives of miR Scientific LLC.

miR Scientific, LLC is a healthcare company dedicated to transforming the global approach to cancer treatments. Over the past year, they have conducted clinical studies on the island leading to the establishment of liquid prostate cancer biopsies.

“The high incidence of deaths of Puerto Ricans due to prostate cancer is a major concern for us as a society and government. This is the time to take concrete action and join efforts to educate men about the importance of doing their studies and laboratories to detect prostate cancer in early stages, “said the governor who then proceeded to sign the proclamation highlighting the important role of urologists in Puerto Rico who have developed innovative studies and technology.
