Allegedly for the “Apple Car,” two former Mercedes engineers have been officially hired by Apple to work on the Special Projects Group.
Apple is believed to have already stolen Porsche’s vice president of chassis development, Dr. Manfred Harrer, to work on the “Apple Car.” Now, a new report says two top Mercedes engineers have been recruited.
First seen by MacRumors, one of the engineers is Dr. Anton Uselmann. Now a product design engineer at Apple, he previously worked on car projects through mass production, dynamics, vehicle steering and project management.
Before Mercedes, Dr. Uselmann received his doctorate while working for Porsche. At the end of his five years with the car company, he was already working as a feature developer in the Steering Systems group.
The second new contract has not been named, but it is also said that he had previously worked at Mercedes.
Separately, Mercedes has worked closely with Apple as it adds CarPlay and Apple Music features to its range.
The company is not expected to participate in the production of the “Apple Car”. More recently, Apple has been talking to Korean and Japanese companies about assembling the unannounced vehicle.
